Shannon

Support worker

Outside of work, what is an interest/hobby you have?

Outside of work I spend most of my time supporting my children in their various passions. When we have weekends of not participating in many different local supporting clubs, I like to spend my time with my family out on our boat enjoying the sunshine and sea life or going away camping.

What is one of the things you do supporting our participants that gives you the most satisfaction?

Being able to provide personal, physical and emotional support and to help them feel independent, confident and a part of their community.

What is something that isn’t on your resume?

What isn’t on my resume is I am scared of owls. I am also a wife and a mum of 3 beautiful children.

What initially drew you to the career path of support worker?

Due to the family influence of having an uncle who made a big impact in the disability sector. This first started my passion for this line of work, continuing on with watching support workers of other members of my family and the impact they had on people’s lives. This created a spark that made me realise this is where my path was going to lead, I wanted to be that person who helps make an impact of others, as that is what brings me the most joy.
