The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has elevated the position of people living with a disability, however, more can be done to improve the experience for providers and participants alike.
There is no doubt the policy initiative is fundamentally changing the experience for those living with a disability, however, the scheme continues to receive criticism throughout its implementation.
Many NDIS participants believe the planning process is one of the biggest hurdles to jump just to gain access to the scheme. Participants are experiencing considerable wait times for plans to be approved and reviews to be finalised. Once plans have been approved, some then go on to long waitlists to receive assistive technologies, such as wheelchairs or communication devices.
Trusted Care is committed to working with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to create an environment that allows people with a disability to take control of their lives and provide them with the support they need to participate meaningfully in the community.
With more than 11 years’ experience in community services, social enterprise and not-for-profit industries, CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Queensland and Trusted Care, Petrina Fraccaro, brings her expertise to the world of NDIS services.
“The NDIS service provider industry plays a crucial role in the disabled community and I’m excited to lead an organisation that delivers real and lasting change to the lives of Australians living with a disability,” Petrina said.
“People living with disabilities have had mixed experiences when it comes to dealing with and navigating the NDIS, especially those with cystic fibrosis. In the main, the people who had access to the NDIS have achieved this due to a pre-existing health condition and not their cystic fibrosis.”
“Trusted Care is a unique NDIS provider which focuses on meeting the needs of people living with cystic fibrosis. This is a first in our sector and it is hoped that the care provided by our support workers will be life-changing for people living with cystic fibrosis.”
“It is our goal to bring together the community services industry and create a workforce that will see our clients excel in life, through expert, quality, ongoing support and care.”
