Samantha joined the Trusted Care team on Valentine’s Day, which also happens to be her birthday! We think that Sam must be a special person to not only be born on such a landmark day, but to also start a new job on her birthday. Read the below to learn more about Sam and what motivates her to work in the disability sector and I am sure you will agree.

“I knew from a young age that I wanted to help people and to make a meaningful difference. That is why I studied nursing” said Trusted Care’s Client Experience lead, Samantha Smith.

‘’But once I graduated and started working, I realised that I need a job which allowed me to make real connections and relationships with my patients to fully support them in my care roll,” said Sam.

A friend referred Sam to the disability sector as an employment option for her and Sam felt that working in individual support would really suit her.

“Once I started working, I knew this was the industry for me. I enjoyed that clients get to pick me, and I get to pick them. Clients have a voice in how they want their care to be provided and I love how the disability sector is trying to empower that voice,” said Sam.

Sam prides herself on building long-lasting relationships. Her clients welcome her into their homes and lives. Sam believes by taking the time to understand their struggles and the barriers that they have faced in the past, she is truly able to provide the care and support that they require.

Understanding their struggles and barriers, she can even their struggles to you and when you can make a difference, big or small it’s an amazing feeling. I want to keep making those differences and this sector is where I believe I can make the most.

Sam has incorporated this passion and ethos into her management style and really enjoys working with and building high-functioning support worker teams; especially incorporating the shared ideas and putting them into practice to get the best outcomes for her clients.

“It is really important to me that my client choose their own pathway in life” she said, “I want to always have a voice and have choice and control over the outcomes”.

Working for Trusted Care appealed to Sam as she could see that the organisation shared her passion and beliefs. Trusted Care is a subsidiary of Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, which has been operating for more than 60 years, and has a long history of delivering practical and relevant in-home care programs. Trusted Care is care you can really trust.
